Despitethevarietyofinjuries,severalprinciplesoffirstaidcanapplytoallemergencies.Thefirststepistocallforprofessionalmedicalhelp.Thevictim,ifconscious,shouldbereassuredthatmedicalaidhasbeenrequested,andaskedforpermissiontoprovideanyfirstaid.Next,assessthescene,askingpeoplearoundortheinjuredperson'sfamilyorfriendsaboutdetailsoftheinjuryorillness,anycarethatmayhavealreadybeengiven,andpre­existingconditionssuchasdiabetes(糖尿病orhearttrouble.Thevictimshouldbecheckedforamedicalcardthatdescribesspecialmedicalconditions.Unlesstheaccidentscenebecomesunsafeorthevictimmaysufferfurtherinjury,donotmovethevictim.
Firstaidrequiresrapidassessmentofvictimstodeterminewhetherlife­threateningconditionsexist.Onemethodforevaluatingavictim'sconditionisknownastheacronym(首字母缩略词ABC,whichstandsfor：
