I am very glad to receive this interview. I hope I can make a good performance.
Now I will introduce myself briefly. I am 26 years old, born in Su Zhou, Jiangsu province. In 2011, I got my Bachler’s degree in Nanjing University, majoring in Chemistry and chemical engineer. With the expectation to be a scientist, I chose to continue my research in Nanjing University.
During my undergraduate period, my research topic focused on the oxidative desulfurization of oil under microwave. Before I started my master’s research, I found that biology, or rather medicine, might be a trend of future development. So the research of my recent 5 years centers on the bio-application of conjugated polymer. Conjugated polymer is a kind of florescent probes, thus it could be utilized in real time in vivo imaging. I developed such a material into three different aspects. The first project showed a smart weight loss approach driven by a designed negative-feedback circuit. The second project utilized the ability of producing reactive oxygen species, also based on the light sensitive conjugated polymer. Moreover, it combined a feature of pH sensitive provided by m-dextran. Finally, this design showed good performance on treating liver cancer. The last project focused on Parkinson’s disease. The light sensitive material is also applied and it is still under research. In last year, I was elected as the outstanding graduate of Nanjing University.
In 2012, the first year of my master’s period, I served as the student assistant in the school office. In the next summer, the school of chemistry and chemical engineering held the first summer camp for the national excellent university student, and I was chosen to be a student counselor. From April 2013 to march 2014, I was elected to be a minister of the graduate student union. Several school activities were organized in the year. Finally, I was elected as the excellent minister.
In spare time, I have broad interests, such as reading, playing badminton, listening to music, singing, and even astronomy. In the past middle autumn day, I used my astronomical telescope to take photos of the moon. Craters were easy to be seen. Very interesting. Amazingly beautiful.
In 2013, when I was a minister of the graduate student union, I developed cooperation relationship with Hersbit Chemical. They want to sponsor a college competition. However, we had no experience in holding such an activity all over the university. Then I connected with the table tennis association. Finally, we succeed to hold such a Nanjing University college cup table tennis match. My English is too poor to tell the difficulties. But, in the end, we did it. And the match continued, year by year, with or without me. I am so proud of it.
In April 2014, three months before the 29th annual conference of the Chinese chemical society, I discussed with my supervisor if I can apply for an oral presentation in the conference. He thought that it was still a long way for my project to be totally completed. I insist that I had got the key data and also most idea of future works. And it might be difficult to finish, but it was possible and I would manage. He agreed. The application didn’t let us down. I got the chance of the oral presentation. When I stood on the stage, when my topic was hotly discussed in the question & answer procedure, when Jerzy Leszczynski, a member of the European Academy of Science, spoke of this work, I was so proud of myself.
